Marking a Milestone: Leaving Home

As youth in your congregation prepare to leave home for university, college, or a job consider marking this occasion with a gift from the church. You might provide the youth with a mug (made from a local potter) with fair trade coffee, tea, hot chocolate and some home-made cookies. You might include a note with the gift inviting them to remember that each time they drink from this mug they are connected to a faith family and faith community that holds them in your thoughts and prayers.

You could also send the newsletter to them, keeping them informed of life and work of your congregation. Sending special greetings before exams might also be appreciated. If there is a chaplain or a neighbouring church to where they will be moving you might see if they would appreciate an introduction. Your minister might also consider a pastoral visit which might include an invitation to a lunch or dinner.
