Announcement from The Bay of Quinte Conference President:

One of the lectionary readings for January 15th was 1 Samuel 3:1-10(11-20) and following on that familiar story of God's call to Samuel, as Conference President it is my pleasure to announce that the Rev. Dr. William (Bill) D. Smith has accepted a call to be the next Conference Executive Secretary of The Bay of Quinte Conference. Bill was one of several qualified candidates that were interviewed by our joint selection team in partnership with The General Council. His name was brought forward to our Conference Executive and affirmed at our last meeting. A meeting of The General Council Sub-Executive subsequently met and approved the appointment. While Bill is transitioning from his current ministry context at Bridge Street United Church in Belleville he will be fulfilling a limited number of duties as CES on a 1 day/week basis in January and a 2 days/week schedule in February and March. The plan is for Bill to be full time as our CES by mid-April. During this time of transition the priority for Bill is to acclimatize and ease into his new ministry context and the very different role he will have in our Conference. Starting well is a key to how our Conference will manage this turning point in our lives together and to facilitate making that turn much of the time in January will be spent in orientation to the new role. I invite each of you to welcome Bill in your own way and to support him and all our staff by keeping in mind that this a time of transition, with all that entails. It is an exciting time to be The Bay of Quinte Conference. May God continue to call forward the leaders we need as we live into our vision and mission together.

Shalom,
Bob

The Rev. Dr. Bob K. Fillier B.A. M.Div. D.Min.
President, Bay of Quinte Conference
